Dandenong Basketball is excited to announce that we’ll be featuring two elite NCAA Division 1 stars in the upcoming NBL1 South season, with Gemma Potter and Leia Hanafin set to join our NBL1 Women’s program before they leave for their respective college programs.
UC Capitals star and new WNBL champion Gemma Potter will join the Rangers before she heads off to Los Angeles to join the UCLA Bruins, while longtime Ranger Leia Hanafin will be placed just a few hours up the road in Moraga, California with the St Mary’s Gaels.
As both have freshman duties in the 2020-21 NCAA season they will be with our Women’s program for the first half of NBL1 South 2020 before departing for the US. Women’s coach Lloyd Klaman is nonetheless still thrilled to have them on board with our existing Rangers stars:
“Both of these girls have been outstanding junior players at multiple levels of basketball and it will be great to have them around the club before they depart”, said Klaman.
“Gemma is arguably the most successful junior basketballer to ever play for her state, with an impressive 7x gold national championship medals for Victoria. She also has just been a part of the WNBL Championship winning UC Capitals team, getting some important minutes before an ankle injury late in the season.”
“Leia had an outstanding season with the NBL1 Women last year, playing 23 minutes at both guards spots. A high level defender already, she averaged over 2 steals a game last year and I expect her game to be at an even higher level as she prepares for her college career in 2020.”
“We look forward to having both of these young stars join the club for the NBL1 South season, even if it’s only for a short time. Two superb talents for Rangers fans to keep an eye on during the NCAA Division 1 season.”
