COVID-19 Update For DBA Clubs & Members

Dear Clubs & Members,

As you will be aware, basketball and the economy as a whole is experiencing unprecedented times.

DBA is in the process of finalising plans and strategies on a worst case basis as we are now in receipt of  ZERO INCOME as a result of COVID-19.

The consequences for DBA are dire if we do not do anything.  For your information, the following key actions are taking place now to ensure DBA is in reasonable shape financially to get our programs & competitions operational when we get the all clear from Government and our governing bodies.

As a first step to ensure our viability, we have, as of last Monday, stood down all staff (approx.40) without salary except for three staff members who will.

  • Bed down our Financial position
  • Sustain our ongoing viability
  • Maintain the health of the stadium during the closed period
  • Develop transition & engagement plans for when the crisis ends, (we do need to get the community back and playing and children off the streets)

I understand that the timing of our shut down did not bode well for all of our aspiring teams who had a chance to win a grand final.  I appreciate that for many, not finishing off a season is disappointing, however we were not left with many choices.  There will be no trophies presented for Summer Season.

Currently, we are unsure when we will be back up and running.  Our focus is to ensure we are ready when we get the green light.  We need to remain positive and keep the option of Winter Season open for as long as we can.

For clubs/members preparing for next season, any fees that you collect / pay  including BV registration, will not ‘kick in’ until the time that a team / player plays their first game. We are all in this together and DBA are keen to work with you in any way we can to ensure we get the best results possible.

We are also aware of the challenges many parents face with inactive children at home.  We have been presented with an ‘on-line basketball skills challenge’  prepared by McKinnon BA that may offset some boredom with children at home.  We will be working with BV and other Associations to see if this has merit in expanding and rolling out to our clubs in the near future.

We thank you for your support and loyalty and hope that you and your families are safe and well during these challenging times.
