Victorian Government Announcement
With the Victorian Government’s announcement of the Roadmap out of lockdown last Sunday, the DBA is keen to engage with its Domestic community in theprocess of getting back to competition.

The Last Step of the Roadmap is tentatively listed as 23 November ’20. At this Last Step, Facilities can be open, subject to safety measures and organised contact sports can resume for all
ages, with limitations on spectators.

Return to Competition
While the exact date of return to competition is still likely to change, what is clear is that we are moving, quite definitely, in that direction. The preparation work completed by DBA staff, before the recent Stage 3 and then Stage 4 lockdowns, is ready for roll-out and awaits more detailed announcements by the State Government and Basketball Victoria. In addition to this, DBA wants you to know that we will be looking at creative ways to make up for the missed basketball over the last 6 months. The reality is that we will miss part of the Summer 20/21 season. However, there are
ways to play extra games during the rest of the Summer season that will give us the catch-up that we need.

Seeking Preferences
The Basketball Victoria website lists some options that Associations are asked to consider on returning to Basketball. These are to allow for more games in a shortened season:
• By shortening the Xmas/NY break to: 24 Dec ‘20 to 4 Jan ’21.
• For Juniors, playing multiple games in a week is a possibility.

Please consider both options and get back to John King or Michelle Purdham by 30 September with your support or otherwise of these ideas. Additional suggestions are welcomed.

Competition Launch
Clearly, we cannot be absolute about a return date at this time but rest assured that we are doing everything possible to be able to launch our competition as soon as we get the goahead. We are looking at innovative ways to make it safe and fun to play basketball and to get all our players, supporters and volunteers back into action at Dandenong as soon as possible.

We will be ready to go when the announcement is made, and it will happen. To get the best outcome, Junior Clubs and Senior teams are encouraged to start the process of registering players and forming teams for the Summer 20/21 season. Registration with Basketball Victoria can be completed through PlayHQ. DBA will provide support for Clubs in the use of the new PlayHQ system.

Other Initiatives coming from DBA
In the meantime, we hope that you:

• Will take advantage of the DBA Athlete Development videos that we have made available (see DBA website under the“Development” tab), and;
• Are getting involved in the creation of a members and volunteers’ database to help connect us all for the benefit of the DBA community.

Expect more updates from the team at DBA in the near future.
