With the U14 Club Championships just over month away our U14.1 Ranger Boys are sharpening their game in preparation, with their coach Justin Brown excited about their chances against the country’s best teams.
Sitting on top of the VC Ashe Pool ladder, the U14.1 Boys are already having a great 2021 campaign despite all of the COVID-related challenges and are keen to battle it out against high-level competition this September at Casey Stadium.
They’ll face-off with 23 other Junior Boys representative teams from across the country, with Coach Brown and the team pumped to compete in an exciting national tournament.
“The boys are really excited, obviously having the year and a bit we’ve had has been really challenging so this is a great chance for us to go out and achieve something special”, said Coach Brown. “Getting to play against the country’s best teams will be a fantastic opportunity and the boys are ready to get out there right now and play and compete at the highest level.”
The tournament will tip-off on Monday 26 September and the team is already preparing their game for this high-level of competition, sharpening their offensive and defensive structures and developing a strong consistency of play. They’ll also be adding two U14.2 stars for both this tournament and the National Junior Classic, with U14.2 stars Padiet Amum and Tyreece Nichols added to the team for a final 12-player roster.
“Padiet and Tyreece have been terrific for the U14.2 Boys this season in VC and their coach, Chris Peterson, has done a fantastic job with them and the team”, said Coach Brown. “They’ll each add an extra dimension to our team with Tyreece adding strong shooting depth and Padiet adding size and inside-outside play to our lineup.”
While the team’s continued success in VJBL competition will be a priority for Coach Brown the focus is really starting to turn to this huge national tournament, with a Club Championship title within reach for his U14.1 stars.
If the team can retain their focus, discipline and compassion for each other he believes they can achieve anything including capturing the 2021 U14 Club Championships title.
“The boys have the potential to win it all, it’s just going to be how much they want it, I think they can be one of the best, if not the best, team in Australia”, said Coach Brown. “They’ve got compassion for each other, they work hard and want to be good together, and if they can put that all together I think they’ve got the ability to win it all.”
