RANGER WOMEN VS. FRANKSTON WOMEN – TIP OFF 2:00PM

Sunday’s Women’s clash could come down to a crucial matchup between two WNBL star forwards, with Emilee Harmon and Darcee Garbin set to battle it out for the first time in 2022. Both were absent from the Round 1 Rangers-Blues game in Frankston and will lead two teams ready to climb the NBL1 ladder as we approach the halfway mark of the season.

Our Rangers were able to grab their second victory last week at home against Sandringham thanks to a Gemma Potter buzzer-beater, launching a three with no time remaining and winning the contest 96-95. They’ll be looking to avoid having the game that close on Sunday and with our offense clicking recently that is a real possibility.

To get that buffer they’ll need to defend well against a potent Blues offense, featuring the aforementioned Garbin, Kate Gaze, Chelsea D’Angelo and Tessa Lavey. While the three guards haven’t shot particularly well this season they are adept at getting the ball to Garbin in good positions and shoot volume three point shots that put numerical pressure on defenses. If we can run off these looks and keep Garbin out of the paint a W should be on the cards.

RANGER MEN VS. FRANKSTON – TIP OFF 4:00PM

The previous Rangers-Blues Men’s clash was a spirited one and we expect much of the same today as both teams battle it out for south-east supremacy. In that contest the Blues got out to a slight lead in the first and were able to keep the Rangers at arm’s length despite some strong fight by our Men on the road.

This outcome was surprising given that the Blues were expected to be one of the league’s better teams and they’ve gone on to do exactly that in the 2022 NBL1 South season, now sitting 2nd on the ladder with a 6-1 record. That one loss was against the Mount Gambier Pioneers in a shootout, something the Rangers won’t likely want to try against a potent Frankston team.

Instead we’ll need to turn up the heat on defense, pressuring the Blues wings and making things difficult inside the paint for bigs Dan Trist and Dillon Stith. Forcing turnovers and creating tranistion opportunities will be key to any Ranger Men’s victory today, play with pace and we’ll be in with a chance against one of the league’s top Men’s teams.
