Long-time Rangers star Tenaya Sooalo will return to the court in Rangers green in a few weeks’ time, re-signing with our NBL1 Senior Women’s program for 2022.
Having played nearly all of her basketball hear within the Dandenong Basketball program the signing was a no-brainer for Tenaya who is looking to make her return to the WNBL in the next season. But before that she’ll be back with our Senior Women starting February 22nd as she and her teammates prepare for what’s sure to be a thrilling season ahead.
“I’m really excited, obviously last year was so up & down with so many lockdowns”, said Tenaya. “But this year is going to be a good one and I feel personally that I’m ready (for the challenges ahead).”
Last season was cut short with injuries and college-callups leaving the Rangers shorthanded at times, a frustrating, lockdown interrupted season for Tenaya and her teammates.
The always busy Tenaya is a passionate musician & fashion designer, giving her projects to work on during those lockdowns, but sport is still her core focus and she’s keen to get back on the court in a Rangers uniform in 2022.
“It was a frustrating time (last season, but for me personally I could focus on other things which was kind of a blessing in disguise. But obviously sport is my main thing so to have that interruption was hard.”
With a strong roster building and Townsville Fire assistant Mason Rogers leading the team as head coach we’re building towards a real championship contender this season with eyes on the National Finals and NBL1 Championship. That opportunity to go for the ultimate prize is something Tenaya and her teammates are focussed on with only a few weeks to go until the season tips off.
“Obviously everyone wants to play for a championship and that’s what we’re trying to do in 2022”, said Tenaya. “Personally, I’m working my way back into the WNBL this year, I’m really looking forward to putting some good games together and playing under Mason will really help that.”
Our NBL1 Dandenong Rangers will make their 2022 debut on Saturday April 22nd in a road outing against Frankston followed by a huge home opener against the NBL1-debuting Casey Cavaliers. Stay tuned for more updates and signing announcements in the coming days as we begin the countdown to that huge NBL1 South Home Opener!
